New Jersey Expungement
What is an Expungement?
An expungement is a second chance. Expunged criminal records are isolated and cannot be accessed by the public or employers. If asked about your criminal history, you can deny ever being arrested. It’s almost like the offense never occurred.
What crimes are eligible?
In New Jersey most charges can be expunged, including shoplifting, theft, assault, drug possession, and more. If your case was dismissed or you were found not guilty, you can expunge your arrest record immediately. To find out if you're eligible, please take our free eligibility test or call us.
How long is the entire expungement process?
The NJ expungement process typically takes 3-4 months due to court delay. Unfortunately, NO ONE (even lawyers) can speed the process up. Since the courts work on a first-come first-serve basis, it's best to start as soon as possible.
Do I have do go to court?
No. Most people do not have to go to court and the entire process is handled via mail. The only type of case that raises a red flag are intent to distribute convictions where the drug in question is marijuana over 50 grams or another substance. A lawyer is helpful in such cases.
Which plan is best for me?
We offer 2 pricing plans. The Plus Plan will remove your criminal record from state and federal databases, so that if an a request is made with the government, nothing will show up. The Pro Plan will additionally remove your criminal record from over 500 private online databases. This is the best way to make sure no one can find your criminal past including potential employers, landlords, loan officers, licensing agencies, and nosey neighbors. Get the process started here.
Which criminal databases do you notify?
We notify top private online criminal databases including, but not limited to, Background Checks, LexisNexis, IntelliCorp, and USA People Search. These databases also sell information to smaller databases. Therefore, having your record removed from these databases essentially removes them from many smaller ones. If would like to receive the private database cleaning service separately, you may purchase it at any time for $100 by filling out this online form or calling us.
What does LegalCrunch do?
First we get your criminal record (if you don’t already have it) and use it to complete all the expungement paperwork for you. Then we call the courts to verify all filing procedures and get all the mailing addresses you’ll need. We use this information to create a personalized Expungement Kit, which is emailed to you.
What happens when I receive the Kit?
Once you get the Kit, you must print, sign, photocopy and mail the forms. Our step by step instructions are personalized for your case and include diagrams to make it easy. The court will mail you back filed forms. You will have to photocopy and mail them to various NJ departments. There will be a hearing that you DO NOT have to attend. One to two weeks after the hearing date, you will receive a notice in the mail that your expungement has been granted.
Are there any additional fees?
All LegalCrunch services are flat fee, meaning what you see is the most you'll ever pay to us, regardless of how much work we do for you. However, note there is there is a non-refundable $52.50 filing fee paid to the state of NJ when you start the process. You must also cover all mailing costs, which typically costs $100 because certificed mail must be used. These costs are spread out over the 3 to 4 month expungement process.
Are you guys legit?
LegalCrunch Inc. was founded in March 2013 and have helped hundreds of people get an expungement. It is a Delaware C-Corporation and has offices in New Jersey, New York, and Delaware. Since we are a private corporation and not a law firm, we can’t file your paperwork or go to court for you. What we do is guide you through the process and make sure you get your expungement. As a result, we are a lot cheaper than a lawyer, but can get you the same results.
What is the money-back guarantee?
Our Pro Plan comes with a 100% money-back guarantee if you are unable to get an expungement. Our Plus Plan comes with a 50% money-back guarantee. Read more about our guarantee.
